In studying the 2012-17 Fiat 500 1.4L Turbo (including Abarth) and 2013-16 Dart 1.4L, we found the stock throttle body necked down a decent amount in the throttle body bore. When the inner bore necks down, it restricts incoming air and makes the car less throttle responsive and fun. We also found that the throttle body was assembled with much larger than needed screws with a large button head and threading that went past the butterfly plate.

So, the tapering of the throttle body combined with the oversize screws impeded airflow, and creates a less than optimal enthusiast driving experience!

That lead to us porting out a TB, installing a larger butterfly plate, using flush screws versus the factory huge screws. We opened up the inner bore nicely and improved air flow into the intake manifold quite a bit.

By doing this, we were able to gain a solid 6 hp at the wheels, and make our Dart 1.4L Turbo even more fun to drive as the throttle was more responsive!

Porting out a throttle body like the Dart's is not an easy task! The Fiat/Dart 1.4L uses a drive by wire throttle body which means that the throttle body is driven by a motor. So, in order to bore out the throttle body we need to disassemble the drive by wire throttle body, remove the motor and gearing, remove the throttle plate and screws, bore it out, install a new throttle plate, and reassemble.

Now, we begin with BRAND new MOPAR tb's that we port, that you buy outright. This means you get a brand new drive by wire throttle body with motor. You can reuse your rubber intake manifold gasket.

This throttle body works great with both automatic and manual transmissions!

Quick summary:

  • Improves throttle response, makes for more fun driving! You can daily drive your car, even in rush hour traffic with no problems!
  • Horsepower and torque gain across the board!
  • NO check engine lights, no idle problems, no issues at all!

After you receive and install the throttle body, do the throttle relearn procedure:

  • 1. Turn off all accessories
  • 2. Insert key and turn to "ON" (Not Start)
  • 3. Wait for the "DING" to depress throttle to the floor fully until check engine light flashes
  • 4. Hold until CEL stops flashing
  • 5. Turn key to "OFF"
  • 6. Release throttle
  • 7. Wait 2 minutes before start-up
  • Fits:
    2012-17 Fiat 500 1.4L Turbo 2013-16 Dart 1.4L 2015-2018 Renegade 1.4L 2014-2019 500L

We have also been able to confirm it fits the 2016-2021 Fiat 124 Spider 1.4 Turbo.

Note: This only works for models in the U.S / Canada / Mexico as the connector plug is different from models outside the North America region.

Note: we used to have a program where we would buy your used oem throttle body back from you but this program is now discontinued, sorry.

Do you recommend a professional install on an item like this, or can it be done with simple tools at home?
      1 Answer
      • Modern Performance

With basic hand tools, and patience most people will be able to install the ported throttle body. Its easy to access, and not difficult to work on.
    • Scott
Is this going to make a difference if you own a standard or automatic? I know Dodge Dealers are not permitted to work on the throttle body with out getting permission first will this posses a problem when I bring my car into the shop?
      1 Answer
      • Modern Performance

This throttle body fits both automatic and manual 1.4 Turbo engines. We're not sure what you are talking about "permitted to work" but we think you are meaning that dealerships cant repair the throttle bodies, and whenever there is a problem they are generally just replaced. Installing a ported TB on your car wont cause any issues with service. In most cases your dealership wont even know you have a ported tb even if they looked directly at the TB.

Last time I changed a throttle body out it somehow fried my computer, does it come with a step-by-step video and or paper instructions? I'd rather have the proper instructions this time
      1 Answer
      • Modern Performance

Jacob, this item does not come with instructions as of 3/5/2013. Its very simple to replace, and it would be impossible to do any damage to your car as this is a very simple piece to replace.

DOES THIS COME WITH A NEW CLAP TO USE OVER THE RUBBER COUPLER TO THE THROTTLE BODY OR DO YOU HAVE TO REUSE THE EXISTING ONE
      1 Answer
      • 220120

You reuse the factory hose clamp, and reuse the factory rubber gasket thats on the intake mnaifold.

I know all dodge dart models are fairly similar. Will this also work on a dodge dart 2.0 non turbo or are the throttle bodies completely different? Thank you.
      1 Answer
      • customer service rep

This throttle body will not work on the 2.0 as the 2.0 uses a different model of throttle body.

I read something about my car computer learning out. Where the computer compensates for the upgrades I make. Is this a real thing and if so will my car learn out the new throttle body?
      1 Answer
      • Joe

Learning out is a very real thing, The ECU in most modern cars has a "learning" feature that does cause it to compensate for differences it sees. BUT, it only can adjust for better MPG not power. They are set for specific values from the factory that the ECU is supposed to stay as close to as possible. The only way to get the full potential from a mod like this it to have a tune that is written for a ported TB.

You have this listed on the Fiat 500 NON-TURBO section of your online store as well as the turbo section. This is a little confusing to me because all of your descriptions only mention the turbo application. I have a NON-TURBO 500 Sport. Will this work on it as well?
      1 Answer
      • customer service rep

This throttle body only fits the turbo models and is not compatible with the non-turbo engine.

Only question I have is are the new smaller screws that are used have any kind of thread locker on them? Let's just say I "had a bad experience" before when I bought an aftermarket ported throttle body...I have trust in your company and have given all my business thus far to you guys & will remain doing so over the competition (just look at my purchase history through my email lol) just wanted to know because I learned the hard way SUCKING up a tiny screw can cause the biggest headache.
      1 Answer
      • customer service rep

Yes, we use red thread locker on the screws that are used to attach the shaft to the throttle plate.
    • Mike
Sounds like this is a great way to get a couple more HP but what does it do for mpg, gains/losses?
      1 Answer
      • customer service rep

If you continue to drive like you did BEFORE the throttle body, your gas mileage will not change much. However, this throttle body makes the 1.4 turbo so much more fun to drive, and its difficult to stay out of the gas after you install the bored throttle body! We guarantee you'll love it.

Hello, this piece is compatible with the abarth european?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

This part is only compatible with North American 1.4 Turbo engines. This will not work with European/Asian/Australian 1.4 Turbo engines.
    • Robert
How much larger is the butterfly plate than stock? How many mm's?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

The stock throttle body at its narrowest point is 43mm. The bored MPx unit is 46mm at its narrowest point. This is a gain in inner diameter by about 7%.
    • trevor latiolais
Does the stock intake need to be ported to match the 47mm ported throttle body?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

No, the intake manifold is larger than the bored throttle body opening and does not need to be modified at all.
    • KYLE CARTER
Can this throttle body be used on the Fiat 500L and Fiat 500X on the 1.4T with the 6spd manual?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

Yes, this throttle body so far works on all Fiat based motors in the Dodge/Chrysler/Fiat lineup and would work fine on the 500x and 500l.
    • Dan Savoie
Do you guys have a bored throttle body for a 2015 Fiat 500L Trekking?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

As of 8/28/2018, this throttle body fits all Fiat/Dodge products with the 1.4 turbo engine. This means Fiat 500 turbo, Fiat 500 Abarth, Dodge Dart, Fiat 500L, Fiat 124, etc. If you have a 1.4 Turbo engine in your Dodge or Fiat car, this will work.
    • Pat
Very interested in the bored TBI.
Curious if it works with the TBI spacer. Thanks
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

Whatever equipment you have- different aftermarket intakes, tb spacers, etc, if they bolt onto the factory throttle body, then this will work fine. Remember, this throttle body is the same exterior wise to your factory throttle body. Only the inside diameters have changed. Furthermore - we have never seen any gains in power with throttle body spacers, we do not believe in those- hence why we do not sell them.

Will this TB work with your sprint booster v3?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

We've sold the 1.4 bored throttle body since 2013, and we have yet to know of a part that wont work with it. No matter what intake, exhaust, tuner, spark plugs, etc you have, this bored throttle body will work with it.
    • Chris
Will this fit with the xx brand intake?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

        Yes, sure will.
Because only the INSIDE of the throttle body is changed, the outer diameter is not changed, and therefore, there is no problem. You can use any intake that works with the stock throttle body.
    • Sebasian
hello Will the throttle point also work on the Fiat Panda 100HP? The engine is 1.4 16V Fire.
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

No. This throttle body should only be used on North America, 1.4 turbo Multiair engines.
