Three things forced this clutch to be made. 1) the OEM flexplate was discontinued by Mopar. So if you needed one, it would be very difficult to find one. 2) The OEM dual mass flywheel was discontinued by Mopar and the aftermarket ones are difficult to find/nonexistent. 3) The only other options for a clutch for the PT Turbo manual that were single mass conversions were very expensive.
So, we worked with Clutchmasters to make this custom clutch kit for the PT turbo with manual transmission. This is a single mass conversion, non modular kit that has the starter ring teeth built into it, so you no longer need the OEM flexplate.
Its also much more affordable than other clutch options for single mass conversion.
Another thing that was done with this clutch that is worthy of note, is that because we were making the flywheel from scratch, we were able to use whatever clutch disc we wanted as long as it had the matching input shaft splines. Instead of copying the factory design that uses a smaller sized clutch disc, we were able to make a larger diameter friction surface along with larger clutch disc. This means you have a better holding capacity with a larger diameter clutch disc.
Holding capacity of each clutch:
FX100 350 ft lbs of torque
FX300 400-420 ft lbs of torque
FX400 460-470 ft lbs of torque
When choosing a clutch, dont choose a clutch that has some super high holding capacity, because the higher rated clutches grab harder and faster, and are more difficult to drive with. We recommend getting a clutch that can handle what power you have now, and maybe another 10-15% additional power for safe holding capacity, at minimum.
