JE Forged Pistons, 95-05 Neon 2.0L/95-99 Eclipse NA

Model Number: 221183-

Modern Performance has teamed up to bring a piston set lineup to market for the 95-05 Dodge Neon. We offer 10.5:1 compression, as well as 12.0:1 compression. For TURBO applications we also offer a low compression piston that is available only as a .020 overbore, it will create an 8.5:1 compression in the DOHC engine and 8.9:1 in the SOHC.

  • Dome/Dish requires no deburring or preparation
  • 2618 T6 high tensile forged aluminum
  • JE designs are specifically engineered for extreme applications up to, and including, professional competition. In this environment, the higher compression ratios, highest boost or heavy nitrous usage necessitate the higher tensile strength 2618 aluminum alloy.
  • Dome and dishes feature smooth flowing radii for excellent flame travel.
  • .827 x 2.250 straight wall carbon steel wrist pin provided.
  • Pin fitting and spiro locks included
  • Rings Sold Separately
  • $649.99

Can the JE pistons be connected to my stock 98 neon r/t piston rods?
      1 Answer
      • Modern Performance

These pistons are designed for the use of full floating roads. We have had customers successfully install them on OEM rods, but we cannot confirm that they work.

      Hi.
I have my sohc head milled .030"
Will a 10.5 and 12.5 piston/rod package still fit my head?
      1 Answer
      • Modern Performance

The 12.5:1 pistons would be cutting it close. We'd recommend doing the 10.5:1 pistons instead.

When i add the quantity do they come in a kit or do i need to put in 4 for the amount of pistons
      1 Answer
      • Modern Performance

The pistons are sold in a set of four. The rings are sold in a set of four. The coating is sold in a set of four. So, in the add on's below the piston bore size, you are selecting either 1 set of rings (or not) and 1 set of piston coatings (or not)

On a 2003 Neon SXT what compression would I be looking at with the SOHC Magnum head shaved .020 with the 8.8:1 slugs? From what I understand in a SOHC with stock head I should be looking at 8.9:1 would the shave get me to 9.1:1? Secondly, would the stock SXT ECU be able to run the car at 9.1:1 (or whatever the compression would be with the shave) Obviously buying these to go turbo but, will be a while before I have everything to boost and the block will need rebuilt soon. Thanks for any help!!

Stock compression in a sohc should be either 9.6:1 or 9.8:1. If you lower the compression to 9.0:1 you'll still be able to drive your car but you'll have less power of course.

Running 12.0 pistons and stage 4 BC cams with the modern head will there be any valve Clarence isues?
      1 Answer
      • customer service rep

When building a motor with very high compression pistons, big cams, you should never follow someone else's advice as to wether or not it will be safe to run. You should always use engine builders clay with the assembly to check. This will allow you to check clearance and then either have a machine shop cut larger valve reliefs, use different pistons, use a thicker head gasket, or more mild cams.

Can stock replacement rings fit these?
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

Definitely not. The ringland gaps are different spec than the factory pistons. You must use JE piston rings. You could source other rings if needed, but you'll have to do a lot of research and checking on ringland gaps, sizes, etc and whats the point when you can just buy the proven JE rings that we offer?

How do the 10 5 1 compression Pistons work with a turbo setup on 97 single overhead cam
      1 Answer
      • Customer Service Rep

It could be done, but increasing the compression on a engine thats turbocharged generally is not a good idea unless you have a good suite of tuning options for timing and fuel. The higher the compression is, the lower threshold there is for detonation, and damage.
