Model Number: 220205-

Modern Performance is pleased to offer a savings package that includes your choice of JE Pistons and Eagle Rods. This package will not only save you a bit of money, but will also save you the trouble of having to purchase components from a number of different places. One kit from Modern Performance is all you need!

This package is great for those of you wanting to rebuild the bottom end of your engine, but not wanting to purchase an complete rebuild kit. This way you can get the forged internals, but build your motor with whatever components you'd like.

Available Compression Ratios

  • 8.0:1 (Stock Neon SRT-4 Compression)
  • 8.5:1 (0.5 Higher for Faster Turbo Spool Up)
  • 10.5:1 (High Compression for Non-Turbo 2.4L Applications. May also be used for turbo applications specifically tuned for E85.)
  • 12.5:1 (High Compression for Non-Turbo 2.4L Applications)

JE Pistons are available in standard bore or 0.020 overbore. Wrist pins and locks are included.

Piston Specs:

  • Dome / Dish Requires No Deburring or Preparation
  • 2618 T6 High Tensile Forged Aluminum
  • Specifically engineered for extreme applications, including professional competition.
  • Dome / Dish feature smooth flowing radii for excellent flame travel.
  • 0.866 x 2.250 straight wall carbon steel wrist pin provided.
  • Pin fitting and spiro locks included

Eagle Connecting rod specs:

  • Made from a TWO-PIECE FORGING
  • X-rayed, sonic-tested & magna-fluxed as part of Quality testing.
  • The manufacturing process of these forgings is designed in such a way that it ensures a superior fatigue life by forcing the grain into the shape of a Connecting Rod.

To strengthen the Connecting Rod, the rod cap is forged separately to enable the grain to run perpendicular to the load forces.
Eagle "ESP" Connecting Rods use 4340 steel to allow maximum flexibility in using different materials to achieve optimum results.
These Connecting Rods also contain a high content of nickel & chrome to achieve greater strength and fatigue life.

These rods come with the new ARP 1.5 2000 series bolts which use a hefty 3/8 bolt with a 7/16 head. These are much stronger than previous generations of ARP bolts used with Eagle rods. Eagle rates these rods at a holding capacity of 600hp and onwards!

Please note: the 8.0 compression pistons look identical to the factory Neon SRT-4 pistons with the big ski ramp design. The 8.5:1, 10.5:1, 12.5:1 compression have a dished design like shown in the photos of the pistons above.

Does this package come with rod bearings as well? If not are Mopar bearings acceptable?
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

None of our rod and piston packages come with rod bearings. Those are sold separate. Yes, Mopar bearings are great.

What is OE compression, and will the OEM rod bearings be correct to use on this package
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

OE compression is 8.0:1. OEM rod bearings are great all the way up to 500 hp and beyond.

Hello, im looking into building my engine here soon hopefully if all goes well. Now im looking at the eagle rods and the j.e pistons. I know our compression ratio is 8.0.1 and im looking to hit atleast 500hp or more. my question is what compression ratio should I go with and bore size? N.O.S will be in the picture. Thank you
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

For higher horsepower SRT4's, we recommend sticking with the lower compression 8.0;1 pistons. You do not need to change compression when you use nitrous. Bore size is determined after you inspect the block and find if your block bore is good, or needs to be bored over.

Will I need to get the assembly balanced if i stay with the stock bore? and will the balance shaft assembly still fit? minus the chain.
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

The pistons and rods are all factory balanced to weigh within a small percentage of each other. You can further balance if you wish the weights between each piston/rod but its not necessary. Yes, you can leave the balance shaft assembly in place if you remove the chain, you'll need to plug the oil hole though.

Does this kit come with arp rod bolts?
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

Yes, all Eagle rods come with ARP 2000 bolts.
  • James
Will these 8.5:1 Pistons have enough valve clearance with a stock top end? Also application wise what's the difference between the 8.0:1 vs 8.5:1.
    1 Answer
    • customer service rep

The 2.4 engine is a non interference engine, and if used with low compression pistons there is plenty of clearance for valves. Stock compression is 8.0:1, and we also offer 8.5:1 pistons for faster spool up.

So I build my motor and Increased my Compression ratio too 8:5:1 with stock turbo Well I have to turn my Vehicle? What do you recommend??
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

No tuning required if you have the stock turbo and stock boost levels but if you have high boost (over 20 psi or so) with the factory turbo, or a larger turbo, then you should get a custom tune done to be safe. When you start increasing boost pressures over stock you have higher temperatures, and with increased compression you increase the chance of detonation. Detonation can damage the motor, so its best to just get the custom tune done so you do not have to worry, and you'll make more power anyways!

Is the anti friction coating price for 1 piston or the set of 4?
    1 Answer
    • Customer Service Rep

The price listed for the Calico coating services is for a full set of four. That would be expensive if that was the price per piston!
