This clutch is designed to work with the OEM dual mass flywheel.

  • Stage 1 HD - 350 ft-lbs - Heavy duty version of the stock O. E. clutch. The Pressure Plate has an increase clamp load for extended life. The disc is dual dampened for smooth engagement and increased transmission life. Premium friction material ensures rapid heat dissipation increasing the life of the clutch. Recommended for spirited and daily driving.
  • Stage 2 Daily - 400 ft-lbs - Engineered for HP modifications. This Heavy Duty Pressure Plate has an increased clamp load with little or no increase in pedal pressure. The Organic disc material has a high metal content that increases the co-efficient of friction by two times over a stock lining and increases rotational strength up to a 12,000 RPM burst point. This clutch system maintains a stock feel while offering strength and durability. Recommended usage is daily, street and moderate race.
  • Stage 2 Endurance - 450 ft-lbs - An SFI approved single mass flywheel is recommended for this application to get optimal performance. This clutch system is designed for the racing climate. The pressure plate is precision balance for vibration free operation at high RPM. The pressure plate fulcrum is altered for a positive disengagement and a quick shift. The disc is engineered with a Dual Damped design to provide accurate control when accelerating through corners. The friction material is a hybrid using a full face Feramic (Sintered Iron) lining on the flywheel side and a high metal content Organic lining on the pressure plate side. Engagement is positive yet buffered due to the high graphite content unique to Feramic facings. Recommended uses are daily and street with an emphasis on Rally and Endurance racing.
  • Stage 2 Drag - 500 ft-lbs - Drag racing requires a Single Mass SFI approved Flywheel to be included with each kit when the original design is Dual Mass. This system features a Heavy Duty Pressure Plate modified for a puck style disc with no cushion between the linings to keep the clutch pedal travel short and quick. The puck design disc reduces rotational mass and total drive surface area while increasing pounds per square inch on the surface of the friction material. This combination minimizes inertia, accelerating the transfer of torque from the engine to the wheels. The friction material used for this race application is Graphite Impregnated Ceramic. This compound exceeded all other friction materials when testing for durability, reduced chatter, heat transfer and torque capacity. Recommended uses are drag racing, drifting and limited street.

      i was interested in your south bend stage 2 clutch on my 03 pt cruiser gt, but i am planning on making 300whp and was wanting to know what if any of the clutches would be rated for 300 wheel hp.

        The turbo 2.4 PT / GT Cruiser makes about 10-15% more torque than horsepower. So what that means is if you are making 300 wheel hp, you'd be at about 330/345 torque. The Stage 1 can handle 350 lbs of torque so thats a little closer than we'd like to have to the power rating of the clutch. We'd recommend the stage 2 Daily instead for an extra margin of safety for power handling.

      Is this kit bolt on for a stock pt cruiser gt or do i need something else like a other flywheel or something?

        As shown in the photos on the page, this is a outer pressure plate, and clutch disc. You'd need to purchase separately the clutch release bearing. This kit is designed to work with your oem flywheel. South Bend does make a clutch kit that includes a lightweight flywheel but its very expensive. Its several times the cost of this clutch.

      Would this kit work with another aftermarket solid flywheels? Such as Rhino or Valeo? Or only the OEM sachs dual mass?

        This clutch will work with any OEM dual mass style flywheel, or aftermarket OEM dual mass flywheel that works with the factory clutch. Also, if other aftermarket solid flywheels will work with a factory clutch then this will work with that flywheel as well. UPDATE - we had one customer with a Valeo conversion single mass flywheel contact us to tell us that this clutch did not work with his Valeo single mass flywheel. We suspect its because Valeo did not copy the OEM design and made their flywheel so that it only works with their conversion clutch.
